Welcome to Muscadine & Magnolia

What this little corner of the internet is for: a homesteader's shop of gear we can stand behind, quail first, then chickens, and honest notes along the way.

Muscadine & Magnolia is a small homestead in Louisiana. This site is where we’ll keep honest notes on keeping animals, growing and putting food by, and the gear that makes all of it easier.

We’d rather show you how something actually went than tell you it was perfect. So you’ll find what things cost, what worked, and what we’d do differently.

Quail come first

The first birds on the place will be quail. Right now that means getting their housing ready, and a good deal of waiting. The birds aren’t here yet. When they arrive, you’ll see the setup with birds in it, and we’ll write up how it holds up in daily use.

Then chickens, and the Bresse line

Chickens are next. Later, we plan to add American Bresse chickens, and The Flock will hold hatch logs and notes as that work begins.

The Pantry, someday

Muscadines are the South’s native grape, and they make a wonderful jelly. A little Pantry of our own is a dream we’re keeping for another season. There’s nothing for sale, and no date, but you can peek at the Pantry page if you’re curious.

A shop you can trust

The long-term dream is a homesteader’s shop with the very best gear in every category, from chickens and goats to fruit trees, canning and the freezer. We’re starting small on purpose. A category only gets a pick when we’ve used it ourselves or researched it carefully, and every paid link is marked right where you see it. Here’s how we pick gear.

A shelf with a few honest picks beats a shelf full of guesses.

Come along

If you’d like to follow along, we’re on Instagram, and the Journal is where new guides and notes will land.
