About us

A small Louisiana homestead, kept with care

Muscadine & Magnolia is a small homestead in Louisiana, and a shop for anyone building a homestead of their own. We keep honest notes from everyday chores and gather the gear worth owning, one carefully labeled pick at a time.

How we work

Hands-on, honest, and patient

Hands-on

Notes from real chores, with close-ups of the gear and, once they arrive, the birds. You'll hear what worked and what didn't.

Honest

Real prices paid. Only gear we've used, or researched with sources. Disclosures in plain sight.

Gracious

Careful in the craft, never fussy in attitude. Warm, plain Southern talk.

Patient

Quail first, then chickens, and the rest in its own good time.

Who's behind it

A young shop, est. 2026

Muscadine & Magnolia is a homesteader's shop run from a small homestead in Louisiana. The site opened in October 2026. We're building the place a step at a time, starting with quail housing.

The first birds aren't here yet, and we won't pretend otherwise. Until gear has earned its keep here, every pick in the Shop is a researched shortlist item, labeled that way, with sources.

On the place now

  • Quail layer cages with roll-out egg trays, set up on a rack
  • A separate grow-out cage for young birds

For now, the photos on this site are licensed stock images. Our own close-ups of the birds and gear will replace them as they're taken. Photo credits

How we pick gear

Used here, or Researched

Every pick in our Shop carries one of two labels. Used here means we own it and use it on the homestead. Researched means we haven't used it, so we say so plainly and link the sources behind the recommendation.

Some links are paid links, and every one is marked (paid link) right beside it. A commission never decides what goes on the shelf. Read our disclosure.

Why the name

Muscadine & Magnolia

Muscadine is the South's native grape: thick-skinned, fragrant and much loved.

Magnolia is Louisiana's state flower. It's also the name of a bronze muscadine variety, which felt like a happy coincidence.

Together they stand for what this place is built around: the birds, the garden and the kitchen.
